Tomas Honz graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, but also studied Chinese painting and calligraphy in Taiwan and illustration in the United states.
He used to work as a concept designer and matte painter in the entertainment industry, but quit after a serious accident. Strong desire to stay independent has been his driving force ever since.
Tomas is deeply fascinated by what surrounds him. He believes that being an artist (painter especially) is the best excuse to spend lots of time exploring the world and learning about it.
In that spirit he travels both around across his native country and the globe. Equipped with sketchbook, portable oils or watercolors he captures things that spark his curiosity, sometimes randomly, other times more systematically.
His paintings are executed with confident and expressive brushstrokes that are quite obvious when viewed up close, but which disappear and create a convincing illusion of reality as one moves further. Luminous light, harmonious colors and sense of quietness and mystery are other trademarks of his work. Looking at Tomas’s paintings is like rediscovering memories that were thought to be lost.
