Another important figure of czech landscape painting, Antonin Chittussi (1847-1891) was born to a Czech mother and a father of Italian descent. He was fascinated by the landscape of South Bohemia and of the Bohemian and Moravian Highlands. In particular, his smaller pictures replete with quick, easy brushstrokes are among the most admired of Czech landscape painting. He directly influenced perhaps greatest czech painters of all time: A. Slavicek and O.Lebeda.

I discovered real treasure few days ago. Bunch of old paintings, which my grandfather Jaroslav Štěpán made 40 years ago. He was the first one who taught me how to paint. I was only four years old back then and I would’ve never dreamt of becoming painter if it wasn’t for him.
I thought it would be nice to share few of his paintings, which are classic czech rural landscapes. Interesting is, that I can recognize some of the places he painted, even after 40 years.

I begin to think that it’s impossible to find bit of unspoiled nature here in Prague. People like to throw their garbage wherever they go, forgetting that they make mess right under their own homes. But there are still places which remind that crystal clear feeling of pure nature, and those are the places which I like to paint.
I would like to do three things today:
- To share with you a new painting of storm clouds. I made it in incredible 15 minutes – my best time I guess.
- To invite you all to join my facebook page, where you can regularly check new and special stuff from me. Related to art of course.
- And finally to thank you for visiting this website and for viewing my artwork.
I was lucky to spend few days in my beloved corner of Czech Republic – Vysočina. I grew up there and I still have deep feelings for that shire.
These are few pochade paintings done on location. I hope you enjoy them!

Nature undergoes significant change in this time of year in Prague. Suddenly, often during single week, many trees cover themselfs in green coats of fresh leaves. That intense color transformation cries for capturing. I hope you will enjoy these week old plein air paintings.
I would like to introduce you today to my former classmate and great czech painter Zdeněk Daněk. He is one of the few artist in our country who regularly goes out to paint. Great thing is that he cares about nature very much and uses his art to support it’s protection. Check out his english website. But unfortunetaly his newest and most beautiful work is only to be found on his czech page, so you can give it a try and find his more recent work here.
And thank you for support guys!
These oils are approximately three weeks old. Weather was really bad back then. I can recall my hands shaking and giant rain drops running down my painting. But it was great experience, even in these conditions.
Some of you might already know that I spent several years working almost exclusively digitaly – with my trusty tablet and photoshop. I was doing stuff like concept art, matte painting or illustration mostly for movies and video games.
However there is also a posibility to use these skills in fine art.
You can do infinite number of quality sketches before you start a traditional painting. You can retract steps, flip images, change values or hues on the go and end up with the best possible compositional solution. But it would be limiting to think about digital tools only in terms of supporting medium. They can stand on their own. But more about it in the future. For now, I will be glad to share with you some digital sketches I did during past few months.
Two new small paintings I did last week on location. I started to include iron oxide black to my limited pallete of three basic colors + white, which I was adviced not to do. Though if used carefuly, it speeds up the process of mixing colors and helps me to add more contrast and variety to my dark tones. Previously I had troubles making blacks dark enough. I hope you enjoy them!
