Tomas Honz (*1989) is an artist and a wanderer. His work has taken him all around Europe and Asia. He rarely paints from reference preferring to work directly from the subject on site. Often he does so in spite of weather and discomfort which would put most people off.

Tomas graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague but also studied Chinese painting and calligraphy in Taiwan and illustration in the United States.

He used to work as a concept designer in the entertainment industry but quit after a serious accident. Strong desire to stay independent and to work on his own projects have been his driving forces ever since.

Tomas is deeply fascinated by what surrounds him. He believes that being an artist (painter especially) is the best excuse to explore the world and his relationship with it.
In that spirit he travels both around the globe and across his native country. Equipped with sketchbook, portable oils or watercolors he captures things that spark his curiosity. Sometimes seemingly at random, other times more systematically.

“Looking at Tomas’s paintings is like rediscovering old memories that were thought to be lost.”

Tomas’s work is found in public institutions in the Czech Republic and in private collections all around the world.

Some of Tomas’ artwork is currently represented by the Galerie Art Chrudim and Jan Cejka Gallery.

Tomas is a member of S.V.U. Mánes.
